O mind, worship Shri Ramachandra, the compassionate one, who removes the terrifying fear of worldly existence (samsara).

The hymn begins by urging the devotee’s mind to meditate on and worship Lord Ramachandra, who is merciful and capable of dispelling the fears and sufferings of life.

NAVAKANJA LOCHANA KANJA MUKHAKARA, KANJA PADA KANJAARUNAM

KANDARPA AGANITA AMITA CHHAVI NAVA NEELA NEERARA SUNDARAM
His beauty surpasses that of countless Cupids, and He is as charming as a fresh blue rain cloud.

Lord Rama’s beauty is compared to that of Kamadeva (the god of love), but it is said that His attractiveness is far greater. His complexion is described as the deep, refreshing blue of a rain cloud.

PATAPITA MAANAHUM TADITA RUCHI SHUCHI NAVMI JANAKA SUTAAVARAM

BHAJU DEENA BANDHU DINESH DAANAV, DAITYAVANSHA NIKANDANAM
Worship Him who is the friend of the humble and the sun for the lotus-like devotees, the destroyer of demons and their entire race.

Lord Rama is portrayed as the protector of the downtrodden and the enemy of evil, particularly the demons. He is compared to the sun, which makes lotuses bloom, representing His ability to bring joy to His devotees.

RAGHUNANDA AANANDA KANDA KAUSHALA, CHANDA DASHARATHA NANDANAM
He is the joy of the Raghu dynasty, the source of bliss, and the moon for Kaushalya (His mother); He is the beloved son of King Dasharatha.

Lord Rama is glorified as the source of happiness for His family, particularly His parents, Kaushalya and Dasharatha, and His lineage.

SIRA MUKUTA KUNDALA TILAKA CHAARU, UDAARU ANGA VIBHOOSHANAM
He wears a crown on His head, beautiful earrings, and a lovely tilak (mark on the forehead); His body is adorned with divine ornaments.

This verse describes Lord Rama’s royal and divine appearance, emphasizing His regal ornaments and the spiritual beauty of His form.

AJANU BHUJA SHARA CHAPADHARA, SANGRAMAJITA KHARA DOSHANAM
His arms reach His knees, and He holds a bow and arrow; He is victorious in battle, having defeated the demon Khara and others.

Lord Rama is depicted as a mighty warrior, with long arms (a sign of strength) and His ever-present bow and arrow. He is praised for His victory over demons like Khara.

ITI VADATI TULSIDAS SHANKAR, SHESHA MUNI MANARANJANAM
Thus speaks Tulsidas, who pleases Shankar (Shiva), Shesha (the serpent king), and other sages with his words.

Tulsidas, the composer, humbly declares that his hymn brings joy to Lord Shiva, the serpent king Shesha, and the sages, as they take pleasure in hearing the glories of Lord Rama.

MAMA HRIDAYAKANJA NIVAAS KURU, KAAMAADI KHALADAL GANJANAM
O Lord, reside in the lotus of my heart and destroy the enemies of lust, anger, and other vices.

The final verse is a prayer, asking Lord Rama to take residence in the devotee’s heart and remove all negative qualities such as lust, anger, and greed, thereby purifying the heart.
