Mysore Jathi, is an Indian classical dance piece in raga Hamsadhwani set to Adi talam. This piece was originally choreographed by the legendary dancer K. Venkatalakshmamma in the Mysore bani of Bharatanatyam, a distinct Mysore style that emerged during Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s reign (1811-1868) and was performed in the King’s court and in temples. The animated Nattuvangam by Parshwanath S. Upadhye sets the mood for the vibrant choreography by Sanjana Rajesh. The performing dancers are Sanjana Rajesh, Sachhidanand Narayankar, Sonam Vora and Maya Dhananjay.
Nimble footed grace characterises the flow of movements in this version of Mysore Jathi where the dancers depict offering flowers, fruits and sweets to lord Ganesha; their Nritya Seva to the elephant headed god. Rhythmic patterns and formations through the Pallavi and Anupallavi lead to the Muktayam that is repeated before the dance concludes with beautiful poses of Lord Ganesha.
